Terminology
POP3
Post Office Protocol, Version 3. A standard
messaging protocol supported by most mail servers.
Typically, it is blocked on the corporate firewall
for security reasons. As a standard, it defaults
to TCP port 110.
IMAP4
Internet Message Access Protocol, Version 4.
A new messaging protocol optimized for managing
mail on the Server. Typically, it is blocked on
the corporate firewall for security reasons and
defaults to TCP port 143.
SMTP
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol, a standard defined
for transmitting email on the Internet. Typically,
it is secured via authentication though corporate
environments prefer to avoid the relay. It opeartes
on TCP port 25.
SSL
Secure Sockets Layer. An industry standard
designed to secure data transmissions over the
Internet. SSL over POP3 and IMAP4 are often called
SPOP and SIMAP and use TCP ports 995 and 993 respectively.
Cellular Digital Packet Data. A data transmission
technology developed for use on cellular phone
frequencies. Services like GoAmerica and OmniSky
initially provided services on a CDPD Network.
3G Wireless
Third Generation wireless technology, designed
to provide greater throughput with enriched flexibility.
For CDMA based networks, this is Express Network
(1xRTT) while for GSM based networks, this is
GPRS.
Bluetooth
Bluetooth is a standard for radio communication
between various devices like Computers, Printers,
PDA's and more. Data is transmitted at a special
frequency between Bluetooth enabled devices (without
cables).
802.11b
(Wi-Fi)
802.11b is an IEEE standard specification created
for wireless, Ethernet local area networks in
2.4 gigahertz bandwidth space. It is a way to
connect our computers and other gadgets to each
other and to the Internet at very high speed without
any cumbersome wiring. Wi-Fi is an abbreviation
for Wireless Fidelity and implies 802.11 interoperability.
Firewall
Software designed to create barriers to prevent
unauthorized access to a network. For security
reasons, most corporate enterprises prohibit access
for POP3 and IMAP4 access on the corporate firewall.

Aileron Mail Enterprise Access?
Aileron Mail Enterprise Access is a robust, end-to-end
secure foundation for extending corporate mailboxes
to Palm Powered handheld devices. It is enabled
by Corporate Information Technology and can extend
mobility for enterprise users while protecting corporate
assets. The communication is secured using Advanced
Encyption Standard (AES) and it enables live synchronization
of user actions on handheld device with users mailbox.

It helps to use the right tool for the right task.
In context of mobile messaging, managing mail with a distributed
architecture is not only the right choice but an important
choice. The handheld devices have fewer resources compared
to the desktop computers. This includes computing power,
capabilities of the operating environment, the network
bandwidth and most importantly, the context in which they
are used. Users do not expect to use their handheld devices
to maintain all messages, not to forget their attachments,
on it at all times. That task continues to be managed
on the desktop computer.
Aileron provides a secure and optimally refined channel
that permits the user to open a window into their mail
store. With progressive data access, the user gets the
right information quickly, without creating the information
overload. Only usable data is transmitted over the air
and is typically provided in the default device format.
This implies:
One can
retrieve new mail messages but can also retrieve old
messages based on their preferred search criteria
at any time. For example, search for all relevant
messages by sender, subject or date on demand at any
time, especially before parting from a customer or
a vendor meeting.
Attachments are optimized for the handheld format.
In most cases, this reduces size of the document without
losing data format. For example, try creating a word
document with just "abc" in it and check the size

Aileron Mail - Personal
Access
I
have a palm device. How do I get started with Aileron
for personal mail?
Start by downloading the software. Save it to the
disk.
Open the downloaded file to install it during
next Hotsync.
Press the HotSync button to install the software
to the device.
After Hotsync, tap on Aileron to launch. It will
install itself.
Click on START HERE which guides you through the
steps required.
Enable modem options if your network operating
cost is based on time.
Set Preferences as desired. Third party software
may be required.
Configure profile for your mailbox and you are
done.
If unsure, please verify access to get your mailbox profile
details.

How
do I configure a Mail Profile?
It is advisable to verify the access to your mailbox
using the tool provided here. This is to confirm that the mailbox
is accessible. In most cases, access to enterprise
mailboxes are usually blocked at the corporate firewall
since most organizations consider email to be business
critical. This is typically considered to be a security
issue.
For non-enterprise cases, this option confirms the
accessibility to the mailbox and provides configuration
details for setting the mailbox profile. On a general
basis, if the mailbox is accessible using this tool
on Corsoft web page, then you should be able to
access mail from that mailbox using Aileron Mail
- Personal Access service.
I am unable
to send or receive email messages?
Check your mail profile settings. You may have
incorrect settings. Check values for Email Address,
Interface type, Server name, Account name and Password.
Note that the password is usually case sensitive.

How do I
download attachments?
Messages with attachments are identified with
a paper-clip in message icon. Selecting the message
will enable the paper-clip in preview bar. In full
screen mode, the paper-clip is at the top of the
message. In either case, tap on the paper-clip to
reveal the list of attachments. Select the attachment
you wish to download and click on NOW. Aileron will
download the attachment if a registered viewer that
can present that data exists on the handheld device.
Attachments
can be opened with their respective management software
i.e. If you have an email with a word document attached
you require document management software to view
a word document like Documents To Go ,Quick Office
etc.. For browser, .doc and .xls selection go to
Aileron-menu-options-preferences and select the
respective viewer in which you would like your attachments
to open. For other type of attachments you do not
require to make any special selection in Aileron,
Aileron automatically detects the document management
software and opens the attachment in it.
Is
Aileron a one time purchase or do I need to subscribe
annually?
Aileron
is a service which has to be renewed annually. Subscription
of Aileron can be for one two or three years.
Whenever
I create a new email and I send it goes in my outbox
how do I send it right away?
After
you compose your email tap on the NOW button and
not the SEND button NOW will send your email right
now and SEND button will take your email composed
to the outbox and will send it on the next connection
with the server.
I
am not able to open my PDF files?
It is
possible that the name of your .PDF file is large
due to which you might not be able to open it. It
is also possible that you might not have installed
an ADOBE reader for Palm OS.
How
Do I install Aileron on my device?
Please
download the AileronS5.PRC from the download section
of our website i.e.:
www.corsoft.com/download.asp then hot sync it
on your device the next step would be to tap on
the Aileron icon on the home screen. Then follow
the installation steps.
Where
do I find the current version of Aileron?
The Current
version of Aileron is 5.0.8.32, on your device the
version information can be found on Aileron-menu-service-license.
If you have an older version on your device we would
advice you to download the latest version from our
site and install it on your device.
I
am not able to view any listings in the drop down box
in preferences?
On your
device quit Aileron and go to the home screen. On
your home screen tap on menu-app-delete then delete
CFTZLib and TMinusLib. Then go back to Aileron-menu-options-preferences
and you will be able to view the drop down with
its listings besides browser,.doc and .xls.
You do
not need to enter your outgoing SMTP server details
as Aileron server acts as and SMTP server.
Do
I need to buy document management software to view attachments
using Aileron?
Yes you
will have to buy document management software such
as DocsToGo or Quick office to view .doc and .xls
attachments. Aileron supports attachments but does
not provide these software.
How
do I buy and get the license key?
To buy
the Aileron server you will have to subscribe on
our website i.e.
www.corsoft.com/subscribe.asp and our system
will send you an invoice after successful transaction.
Where
do I get more information on attachments supported by
Aileron?
I get an error “No Application present to open this
attachment”, Help?
This
is the error you get when you have either not selected
the appropriate Viewer in the preferences section
(Aileron-menu-options-preferences) or you do not
have the software installed on your device to view
the attachment.
How does the Fax option work?
The fax
option works the same way as you send a mail instead
of entering an email address you just need to enter
the fax number when you compose the email. Fax can
be received only in tiff format. As of now fax is
supported in the US and Canada only. To view how

What is shred at server option?
Shred
at server option also delete’ your email from the
server when you delete a message from your device.
